Research: MediaTek Cell Phones chips is the champion in shipments last year

July 1 news, market research agency Strategy Analytics said that last year the size of world’s baseband chip market has been more than 11 billion U.S. dollars, only 0.7% lower than in 2008 slightly. Qualcomm, MediaTek these two chip factory win more than half of the market. If view from average shipments, MediaTek shipped 351 million last year, surpassing the 345 million of Qualcomm, and become the world’s largest Cell Phone chips shipments manufacturers.

 

From 2008 Q3, Texas Instruments, Freescale have announced its withdrawal from Cell Phone baseband chip set market; there has not been a significant change the global Cell Phone baseband chipset. According to SA analysis, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Infineon, Broadcom, Marvell continued market share gains, but the ST-Ericsson, Texas Instruments and Freescale’s market share is declining among them.

 

Also, according to Shui Qing Mu Hua of China Research Center (RIC) statistics, in 2009 the global Cell Phone baseband chip shipments, MediaTek to 351 million beyond the 345 million Qualcomm officially become the world’s largest Cell Phone chip shipments plant, but the turnover point of view, Qualcomm is 6.135 billion U.S. dollars which is still far more than MediaTek’s 2.485 billion U.S. dollars (only include Cell Phone chips), Qualcomm’s 3G chip price is clearly much higher than MediaTek chip 2.5G sales price.

 

SA believes that, led by low-cost cottage market, MediaTek has grown into the position after the Cell Phone chip maker Qualcomm, but Infineon and Broadcom, will benefit from first-line phones and related OEM manufacturers adopted multi-line procurement strategy this year, market share will be improved. Infineon chips currently low which has been Nokia Cell Phone use, more advanced 3G chip, Apple iPhone-related series was popular, so very worth seeing this year’s Infineon.

As for the Broadcom this year will also be the harvest year, the industry said that in addition to Infineon, Nokia’s cheap Cell Phone also has begun using Broadcom’s baseband chip, and in 3G area, Broadcom also come into the supply chain of Nokia and Samsung. It is expected to have a product launch in the second half year. There will be significant results emerged of Broadcom this year in Cell Phones.
